Competition drives new Meijer job cuts
Hundreds of Meijer Inc. managers were given the ax today, the latest and most significant round of cuts aimed at helping the Walker-based chain withstand pressure from giants such as Wal-Mart.

And the region's largest manufacturer, Steelcase Inc., next week is expected to announce a restructuring plan which could include more job cuts and plant closings.

Meijer has cut almost 2000 jobs, and is indeed beginning to look like Walmart, right down to the floor plan and color scheme. Steelcase has cut it's workforce in half already, and now more on the way. I don't see an end to our recession anytime soon.
