Cubs make offer to Maddux
Cubs general manager Jim Hendry made a two-year offer to Maddux through his agent, Scott Boras. The deal was believed to be in the $13-to-$15 million range.

Hendry said there is no deadline regarding the Cubs' offer to Maddux.

"We feel we could go to Spring Training with a quality club right now," Hendry said. "We got a lot better. We increased the payroll, we added a lot of good players in the winter. Greg was the icing on the cake. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, we still feel we're ready to compete and contend with what we have."

No, no, no, Jim! Hitting catcher!!! Where's Pudge? Or Kendall, now that his Padre deal fell through?

Changed my mind on Maddux. I want him now that Houston got Roger. We both can have aging, expensive stars that are way past their peak. :-) Seriously, it would be nice to have a very solid fifth starter, especially if one of the big boys goes down to injury. Still don't trust Cruz.
