Yahoo! News - N.J. 2nd State to OK Stem Cell Research
WEST ORANGE, N.J. - New Jersey became the second state to allow stem cell research on Sunday as Gov. James E. McGreevey signed a law he said will "move the frontiers of science forward."

Stem cell research, which has been strongly opposed by anti-abortion groups and the Roman Catholic church because it involves the use of fetal and embryonic tissue, is also permitted in California and bills are pending in Illinois and New York.

President Bush, citing ethical considerations, has limited federal funding for embryonic stem cell research to existing lines of cells. But many stem cell scientists say the policy severely restricts research that ultimately could benefit millions of patients.

Many "federal vs. state" battles appear to be shaping up, from stem cell research to gay rights to medical marijuana, etc. I hope that the Dems use these issues to show how oppressive the Bush regime really is. Let's hammer on how this administration is thwarting progress on the humanitarian front!
