Lawmakers keep death penalty off the ballot
LANSING -- Touching on themes of revenge, justice, forgiveness and religion, an impassioned two-hour death penalty debate in the Michigan House failed to garner the 73 votes needed to put the issue before the public.

Still, the 55-52 vote Thursday showed some momentum on the issue. When the same debate was held in 1999, only 30 House members voted in favor of the death penalty.

Gotta admit they have tackled some tough questions this session...
