Yahoo! News - More Fortune 500 firms bar anti-gay bias

More Fortune 500 companies than ever before have adopted corporate nondiscrimination policies that include sexual orientation. A total of 389 of those companies, or 78 percent, now include the policies, according to Equality Forum.

That's up from 323 companies in fall 2003, based on a list compiled by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

"It's always a good thing when a company adopts a nondiscrimination policy covering sexual orientation because there is no federal law protecting gays and lesbians from workplace discrimination," said Kim Mills, education director for HRC.

Now what we need is a concerted effort from these companies to boycott the states that have discriminatory laws. Don't recognize gays rights? Well, we can't have our convention in your state. So sorry. (Are you listening Ohio? Kansas? Anyone?)

Economics will win in the end.
