WOODTV.com & WOOD TV8 - Grand Rapids news and weather - Cigarette tax vote may occur this week
Raising the tax on cigarettes could raise between $295 million and more than $300 million. If the tax is raised by 81 cents, as proposed by some, it would make Michigan's tax the highest in the nation.

Governor Granholm has said it's a matter of public health, but increasingly, it's a simple matter of public finances. It's also a matter of who will get the credit or blame for raising the taxes.

Another reason I can't quit my job. I need to "wanDERRR IndiANAAAAA". I bet a lot of people will be border hopping in a big way. Will we see stings set-up if this passes? Or will we see a lot of people quit as NYC has seen?
