Yahoo! News - Bush Defends Limits on Stem Cell Research
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Tuesday defended his policy of strictly limiting stem cell research, despite pressure to reconsider after former President Ronald Reagan died of complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Bush, speaking to an audience of core conservative Christian supporters, underscored his opposition to most embryonic stem cell research.

"Life is a creation of God, not a commodity to be exploited by man," Bush told the Southern Baptist Convention via satellite. The group's convention was held in Indianapolis.

Although Bush did not specifically mention stem cells in the speech, a spokesman later confirmed that the rejection of the use of life as a "commodity" was a reference to his stance on stem cells.

He doesn't even have the balls to say it. So your family member has Alzheimer's? So sorry, but we won't fund a cure because the Christians won't allow it. A woman's right to choose? Well that's against our religion, too. Right to life and all, but we sure as hell will ignore that life once it's here. Want to marry your partner? No no, that would be a sin, according to our interpretations.

So, America, do you want a theocracy? Do you really want the fundamentalist Christians deciding the direction your life will take? That is the road we are heading down if we elect George again.

This morning I am angry. I want these people and their religion out of my life. I want a cure for these diseases that have robbed so many families of their loved ones. I want it to be available to me should I ever need it.

Bush and the Holy Rollers have got to go.
