ChicagoSports.com - Nomar trade to Cubs looks unlikely
Speculation involving Nomar Garciaparra coming to the Cubs surfaced again Wednesday, but chances of everything falling into place appear remote.

The New York Times reported that Boston was contemplating a three-way deal in which the Cubs would send the Red Sox prospects for Garciaparra, with the prospects in turn shipped to Arizona for left-hander Randy Johnson.

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry declined to comment on the report.

The Cubs' interest in acquiring a shortstop for the stretch run isn't surprising, and Garciaparra would seem a perfect fit. But no deal is imminent, and the Boston Globe reported that Red Sox management currently has no plans to dump the soon-to-be-free-agent shortstop.

Intriguing. But could we afford him?
