Yahoo! News - Senate Vote on Stem Cell Policy Not Likely
WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday it is unlikely the Senate will vote this year to relax Bush administration rules on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, despite widespread support in the Senate.

"It becomes a very political issue very quickly because it gets into abortion issues and tough issues," Frist, R-Tenn., told a National Press Club audience. "In the middle of a campaign, in a very narrowly divided Senate, I don't think we could do it justice."

Denying life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness at every turn, ladies and gentlemen, give it up for your United States Senate!

Excuse me? You could tackle the gay marriage "threat" but this is a "tough issue"? You fucking hypocrites. The only reason you won't do this is because you know that you are on the losing end of this battle as far as popular opinion is concerned.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who signed the Senate letter to Bush, has said supporters have more than the 60 votes needed to end a filibuster and vote for broader stem cell research.

Frist questioned the value of embryonic stem cell research in battling Alzheimer's, although he said it could be helpful in fighting diabetes and other illnesses. "There is a huge disservice going on today in the overpromising of research" Frist said.

Yes, Bill, people dying of horrible illness shouldn't grasp on to any hope based on research, should they? You sick people should just wait because, well, this is a tough political issue in a campaign year, and we don't want to appear "uncompassionate", or piss off our own radical right-wing base.

Jerks.
