Here's A Thought:

If I was in a straight marriage, and I had the money, it might be fun to sue for the right to have a "civil union".

I would ask for the word "marriage" to be removed from any and all paperwork, license, whatever legal papers that pertain to my relationship, because after all, "marriage", by the new definition in the state of Michigan, is an institution that discriminates against certain people.

Would you belong to an all-white country club? Go to a school that didn't allow Jews? The state is now forcing you to belong to an institution that discriminates. Think about it.

Now, I don't know exactly what a marriage license says, but I believe it actually says the word "marriage", and not "union", right? (Straight folk, help me out here- I know the federal tax forms do say "married")

I would want the right to have that word stricken, since it is now a tainted word in my eyes. Let the bigots keep it, I would want no part of it. Goes against my moral values.

And the publicity would be delicious, especially if you got a whole bunch of couples together as kind of a class action thing.

David Kelley could have a field day with this!

(for those who don't know who David Kelley is- if you've seen any TV show in the last 20 years that centered around lawyers, chances are David wrote it.)
