WOODTV.com & WOOD TV8 - SBC Michigan is phasing out its time of day service in the state
(Lansing-AP, December 29, 2004, 8:10 a.m.) Michigan residents soon won't be able to hear `At the tone the time will be ...' by phone.

SBC Michigan is phasing out its time of day service in the state after 75 years.

A spokeswoman for the San Antonio-based telecommunications giant said the service isn't being used because people have so many other ways to get the time -- by radio, T-V, cell phones and the Internet.

Spokeswoman Liz Whelan says Michigan is the last state of the company's five-state Midwest region to lose the service.

Some smart business should pick up the "459-1212" number and stick an ad in front of the time. Surprised that SBC didn't go that route. I still called it whenever I lost power.
