Yahoo! News - Pro-gay Arnie: GOP should move left
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says the Republican Party should move "a little to the left," according to a German newspaper interview published Saturday.

According to Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Schwarzenegger said, "The Republican Party currently covers only the spectrum from the right wing to the middle, and the Democratic Party covers the spectrum from the left to the middle."

"I would like the Republican Party to cross this line, move a little further left and place more weight on the center," the paper quoted him as saying. "This would immediately give the party 5 percent more votes without it losing anything elsewhere."

In September, Schwarzenegger signed his first major gay rights legislation, requiring insurance companies to provide coverage to domestic partners. Later that same month, Schwarzenegger signed a hate-crimes bill that included offenses motivated by a victim's sexual orientation or gender identity.

Schwarzenegger also supports marriage equality for same-sex couples, according to Geoffrey Kors, executive director of Equality California, in a Dec. 6 interview with the PlanetOut Network.

I have to hand it to Arnie. I guess it will take someone like him, working within the Repub party, to pull them away from the Radical Right and towards progress. Quite frankly, he's got my governor beat hands down at this point (on this issue, anyway).

Sorry Jen. California is lookin' pretty good to me. Too bad it's so expensive to live there.
