Breaking: McCain Wants to Postpone Debate

Right now on MSNBC - McCain wants to delay the debate and "suspend his campaign" to focus on the financial crisis in Washington.

NEW YORK - Republican John McCain says he's directing his staff to work with Barack Obama's campaign and the debate commission to delay Friday's debate because of the economic crisis.

In a statement, McCain says he will stop campaigning after addressing former President Bill Clinton's Global Initiative session on Thursday and return to Washington to focus on the nation's financial problems.

McCain also said he wants President Bush to convene a leadership meeting in Washington. Both he and Obama would attend the session.

Hmmmm. If it is that urgent, why wait? Why not suspend the campaign right now? Sorry, but this sounds like a dodge to me. Watching McCain on the TV - and OMG he just brought up 9/11 - this just seems like another trick to avoid talking about the issues. Maybe take the news of Davis off the table.

UPDATE: ABC is reporting that the Obama people say the "debate is on". Not sure who he will debate if McCain doesn't show... but this just got interesting.
