MDP On The Ball

WTG MDP. Very nice to see a proactive stance, and good examples of Snyder's job-killing record are being exposed here. Sure, it's meant to get press, and that's exactly what it did.

And the spooky music is back too!

One word that we need to see mentioned more often is "diversify", as in: The examples featured are yet another step backwards from the effort to diversify our economy to the point where we are not so dependent on the auto industry. Yes, we want the auto jobs, of course, but we have to keep growing in other directions as well. How many times do we need to learn this particular lesson? Why isn't that being mentioned more often? With Snyder killing education jobs, the movie industry, cutting back credits that would bring new business like energy here - he's forcing us right back into the same boat that got us in trouble in the first place.

Even the Wall Street Journal has noticed this. From a story on how the Big Three are concentrating jobs back in Michigan now:

The return of manufacturing work helped to buoy the state's economy from a near depression to a 2.9% growth rate last year. Payroll- and sales-tax receipts are on the rise, said state Treasurer Andy Dillon. Yet with its heightened dependence on the cyclical auto industry, Michigan is susceptible to swings in the national economy, which is showing signs of slowing.

Been there, done that, here we go 'round again. Failure to keep up with the effort to diversify our economy is Snyder's biggest mistake, and that may cost us dearly down the road.

It's already costing us now, and I'm glad to see Team Blue make a note of it. Keep it up.
