Report: Hawkins signs with Cubs
Hawkins, who turns 31 on Dec. 21, was 15-3 over the last two seasons with the Minnesota Twins, giving up 35 earned runs in 157 2/3 innings. Hawkins was the Twins' closer in 2001, totaling a career-high 28 saves, but he also compiled a 5.96 ERA. Switched to setup role in 2002, he thrived, going 6-0 with a 2.13 ERA. This season, Hawkins was 9-3 with a 1.86 ERA.
