Cubs interested in Maddux
CHICAGO -- One angle for the Chicago Cubs' 2004 ad campaign is, "How's this for starters?" featuring the team's foursome of Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Matt Clement and Carlos Zambrano.

How about Greg Maddux, too?

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry has talked to Maddux's agent, Scott Boras, and said he is interested in the free-agent pitcher, who could return to the team where he began his big-league career. Maddux was the Cubs' second-round draft pick in June 1984 and won his first Cy Young with the team in 1992 when he went 20-11 with a 2.18 ERA.

If we can get him cheap enough, why not? But I would hope they don't pass up Pudge just to blow money on Maddux.
