Sandberg falls short in HOF bid
Sandberg failed in his second appearance on the ballot, earning 309 votes or 61.1 percent of the possible electorate.

A 10-time National League All-Star, he led the National League with 40 home runs in 1990 and hit at least 20 in six seasons. He was vying to become the 17th second baseman inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The nine-time Gold Glove winner posted a career .285 average with 282 home runs, 2,386 hits and 1,061 RBIs. He played all but one of his 16 big-league seasons with the Cubs, and won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1984 when he hit .314 and made only six errors.

He wasn't flashy but incredibly consistent, and holds the all-time fielding percentage for second basemen (.989). Sandberg also is the Major League record holder for most home runs by a second baseman (277) and most consecutive errorless games by a second baseman (123).

All time fielding percentage? Most home runs for 2nd base? What gives, voters?

Next year Rhino.
