Cubs fall in extra innings to Reds
The Cubs were one out away from opening a half-game lead in the Wild Card race when Jimenez tripled in the ninth off Hawkins. He then scored on Kearns' double to tie the game.

"I'd rather have him beat me like that than walking guys," Hawkins said. "I can accept being beat when guys swing the bat."

Hawkins accepted the closer role in June when Joe Borowski was sidelined with a shoulder injury. This was Hawkins' ninth blown save this season, second in a row, and third in his last five appearances.

What was that saying about insanity? Keep doing the same thing and expecting different results?

What a disappointing year.

The Cubs now have four games to make me eat those words, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. I just don't see the desire to win with this team. Bad chemistry, bad management- I don't know what it is, but all that talent and they just can't seem to pull it together. Very sad.
