Amway begins running ads, saying workers feel under attack

This is a diversion designed to draw attention away from the fact that Dick is hiding his true plans for Michigan. If we are talking about Amway, we are not talking about Dick and his support of the Bush administration and the extreme religious right. See how that works?

LANSING, Mich. - Less than a week after Gov. Jennifer Granholm criticized GOP opponent Dick DeVos for laying off workers while he was president of Amway Corp., the Ada-based company has begun running two TV ads.

"Our company has been dragged into the headlines in recent months," said a posting Thursday on the Web log of Amway's parent company, Alticor Inc. "If people are going to define our company, we'd rather our employees be heard. They are the experts. We are running these ads because, in the hallways and on the factory floor, our employees feel like our company is under attack."

The real "experts" are the 99% of Amway distributors who never turn a profit.

Maybe DeVos' goal in all of this was to reintroduce Amway to America and sucker a few more people in.

DeVos campaign spokesman John Truscott said there was no coordination between the campaign and Amway on the ads and he doesn't see the ads helping DeVos.

He added, however, that ads being run by the state's economic development arm that show actor Jeff Daniels promoting Michigan as a good place to do business benefit the Democratic governor. Granholm has said the ads don't mention her and aren't political.

No, dipshit, the ads promoting Michigan benefit all of Michigan, not just one company or the Governor. I guess Mr. DeVos doesn't want to see any benefit for Michigan right now, though. Screws up that inspiring campaign theme that so far consists of "We suck". Can't have success or progress ruining Dick's message, can we?

Granholm campaign spokesman Chris De Witt said the Amway ads clearly are intended to help DeVos.

"If anyone believes that Amway isn't doing this to help Dick DeVos and his run for governor, I want to talk to them about buying some soap from me," De Witt said.

But first Chris, you have to sell them some motivational tapes to get them in the mood. It's not about the soap, it's about the "get rich quick" lie.

In May 2004, with Eric Scheibeler's assistance, NBC's Dateline ran an expose of the secretive and illegal pyramid business run by Amway/Quixtar operatives. According to Evelyn Pringle, "During its investigation, Dateline smuggled hidden cameras into recruitment meetings in order to document the company's deceptive claims and promises, and to expose its multi-million dollar 'secret' business. The expose verified the common allegation made in numerous consumer lawsuits, that the company is merely a front for a hidden pyramid business based on selling books, tapes, and registrations to seminars and rallies to new recruits, with nearly all participants losing money."

If you have time, go watch that Dateline story, and you will see what modern day snake-oil salesmen look like.

DeVos is trying to sell his get rich quick scheme to the state of Michigan, but if you look behind the curtain you will find the people who were fooled by this deception and lost everything, while once again the Republicans get away. Don't let that happen.
