DeVos complaints improve MDP ad

Thanks Dick! It sounds a lot better now! From Rick Albin at WOOD TV in Grand Rapids-

GRAND RAPIDS --The fight over a commercial paid for by the Michigan Democratic Party has come to a least a partial resolution, but the battle continues.

Where does the battle continue, Rick? DeVos still hassling your legal department? Bet Channel 8 and other stations are just thrilled to put a bunch of manpower into this.

The DeVos campaign demanded the ad be pulled off the air. The vast majority of stations in the state, including WOOD TV8 and WOTV 4, did not.

Then why does the DeVos campaign site say that WOOD did pull the ad? Dick wouldn't lie to us, would he?

The DeVos for Governor campaign attorneys received notification today from WOOD TV 8 in Grand Rapids that it was pulling the Democrat's China attack ad which started airing on Wednesday.

The GR Press today also says that WOOD never pulled the ad, and they also inform us that WWTV and WWUP did pull the ad Thursday night, but put it back by Friday, unchanged. (this story is not on the web yet- but it's on the front page of the paper tonight)

Curious that Dick would say that WOOD pulled the ad when they obviously did not. Wonder if WOOD likes being misrepresented that way. As long as they have the lawyers handy, they might want to ask them about that, too.

Back to the change-

In what may be considered an "extreme claim check," our legal department looked at the commercial on two different occasions to determine its validity.

After a full review our attorneys asked, and the Democratic Party agreed, to make a change.

So what was the concern and what was changed?

Here is the line from the first commercial: "After Dick DeVos laid off nearly 1400 workers from Amway, his company in Michigan..."

This revision was submitted today: "After Dick DeVos eliminated nearly 1400 workers at Amway, his company in Michigan..."

"Laid off" gives the impression that they could be called back. "Eliminated", however, sounds so... permanent. Which it was. Those jobs never came back, and there hasn't been any substantial job growth at Amway in the aftermath of the DeVos reign, either.

So, Dick, feel free to keep making suggestions on the things that need to be changed. Looks like the MDP can come up with better descriptions of your record if they are put up to the challenge.
