Meta Confusion

Yes, I'm still here. Yes, I'm still reading everything I can get my hands on. Yes, I'm horrified by what is going on. There are so many things... so many things that, if I tried to keep up with writing and attending rallies (I would have driven to Madison) and putting the time and effort in that I want to give this - it's all I would do. And that's just not an option right now. (Edit 3/9: Nevermind, they are sucking me back in. "You can check out anytime time you'd like, but you can never leave". This gets in your blood or something...)

So, until I figure out where this blog is headed, follow my Twitter page for the stories that have grabbed my attention on any given day. The good, the bad, the sticks to beat the Republicans with, you will find it there. The feed is over on the right ----->.

The banner above is a shot of the Michigan-Wisconsin border at the Menominee River, taken from a park in Niagara, WI. Niagara is a small town that was once the home of a New Page paper mill. Closed in 2008, took 300 jobs with it, and that has made for some hard times in the area. The mill site is now up for redevelopment, with an eye towards marketing it for renewable energy production in the form of biofuels. Best of luck to them.

I post this in honor of the Wisconsin 14. They give me great hope that there are still Democrats out there who are willing to put everything on the line to do what is right by the people. Lord knows I loves me some stand-up Democrats. I don't expect them to hold out forever, but every day that goes by helps to keep the story in the news, and that in turn draws attention to the GOP power grab that is happening in Wisconsin and other states - including ours.

Thank you Senators, for your personal sacrifice. Even if we lose this one battle, it just might be the first step in winning the war. May we forever remember your names.

Godspeed to you all.

UPDATE 3:30PM: Greg Sargent reports: "Walker attacks Dems, succeeds in making them more resolved to hold out". Maybe we should rent these guys some apartments in Rockford...

UPDATE 2: John Oliver bravely journeys into Illinois' savage, frozen territory to track down the missing 14 Democratic state senators from Wisconsin.

UPDATE 3: And let us not forget the Indiana House Democrats, currently holed up in a hotel in Urbana, IL, who have vowed to stay away for "as long as it takes" until the Republicans back off union-busting bills. They have committed to staying out until April 29th, which would require Gov. Daniels to call a special session after that date. Go Hoosiers!
