Last year, the Republican-controlled Legislature and GOP Gov. Rick Snyder eliminated some tax exemptions on pension income and tax credits for seniors to make up for lost revenue from a $1.8 billion tax cut for businesses and corporations. "On the issues, (the Republicans) are in big trouble," said state Rep. Jeff Irwin, D-Ann Arbor, chairman of the House Democrats' election campaign.
