WOODTV.com & WOOD TV8 - Grand Rapids news and weather - Electrolux to close plant in Greenville
The news came down at 7:30 a.m. today and 24 Hour News 8 was there when Electrolux notified workers the company was heading south to Anderson, South Carolina and Mexico.

The move will take place in 2005 when the company will slowly phase out 2,700 jobs in Greenville. The decision comes after the city, state and union all requested an extra week to negotiate a deal that would convince the company to stay.

My heart hurts for these people, for ALL the people who have lost decent, well-paying manufacturing jobs in West Michigan over the past few years. I can't imagine how it would feel to have your life mortgaged to the hilt (house, kids college, car payments, etc.) and know that there will be nothing in your future that will pay that well.

Kiss the unions goodbye, America. To compete with Mexico and China, WE will have to pay slave wages to our citizens- driving more and more to the poverty level.

Sad. Will we witness the death of the middle-class?
