Yahoo! News - Bush softens gay stance in home stretch

President Bush said the Republican Party is wrong to oppose civil unions for gay and lesbian couples, but stuck to his opposition of same-sex marriage during an interview that aired Tuesday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"I don't think we should deny people rights to a civil union, a legal arrangement, if that's what the state chooses to do," Bush told "GMA" host Charlie Gibson.

"I strongly believe that marriage ought to be defined as between a union between a man and a woman. Now, having said that, states ought to be able to have the right to pass laws that enable people to be able to have rights like others," the president said.

You have got to be kidding me with this.

Well, George, if that's true, how about the FEDERAL benefits of marriage, hmmmmm? Going to propose civil unions on that level?

NO??? Didn't think so.

Hope the gay Pubs don't fall for this shit.
