Thorough inspection of Wrigley set
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs will begin a thorough inspection of Wrigley Field on Friday in response to two instances in which small chunks of concrete fell near fans during games at the 90-year-old ballpark.
A headline in Thursday's Chicago Sun-Times had a message from Chicago Mayor Richard Daley to "Fix Wrigley or I'll shut it down."

"We don't require motivation nor should anyone else that you create a safe and as pleasant an environment as you possibly can for the fans," said Andy MacPhail, Cubs president and CEO. "We are doing and have done in the past and will continue to do everything in our power to provide a safe and a pleasant atmosphere as we can. Any area that we've identified as a problem, we've fixed.

The poor old building probably isn't used to 40,000 people tramping through it on a daily basis. When, besides the past two years, has it even seen so much use?

I remember my visit to the old Comiskey- the place looked like it could fall in at any minute; huge cracks in the concrete. Wrigley is in much better shape. I hope they can fix it up, it would break my heart (and probably cause riots in the streets) if they had to shut it down.
